End-of-the-year traveling can be extremely stressful, so we want to share some of our favorite holiday travel tips to help you out this year.
For most of us, the focus tends to be on logistics: where we’re going, how we’re going to get there, and so on. But there’s a whole lot more to think about when traveling during the holidays than just your destination — especially if you want to keep your sanity during the process.
Finding reliable personal and group transportation services during these times can be difficult enough, which is why it’s important to do what you can do to make your holiday travels as stress-free as possible. And while it’s impossible to ensure you won’t face a couple bumps along the way, we can guarantee that the tips below will make it a little less hectic and a little more enjoyable.
Here are some of our top holiday travel tips to help you have smooth and safe travels over the holiday season.
If you’re traveling home….
Arrange travel times with your family members. If you’re heading home for the holidays, don’t just assume that everyone else is operating on your schedule. It’s important to coordinate your arrival and departure with at least one other family member so that they know when to expect you.
Traveling with others? Consider group transportation services. Group transport can take the guesswork out of getting everyone where they need to be for the holidays. If multiple family members are going to be arriving at the airport at the same time, arrange for a shuttle or other type of transport that can take everyone to your next destination at once.
If you’re traveling for vacation….
Be flexible with your travel dates. The days before and after Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are notorious for airport chaos. If you can, arrange your flights so that you miss the busiest days of holiday travel. Not only will you face shorter lines for check-in and security, you’ll also have less stress your trip comes to an end.
Arrange for a shuttle or limo to/from the airport. Start and end your vacation in style with personal luxury transport from the airport to your hotel or resort and vice versa. Arranging transportation in advance ensures that you get where you need to be safely and on time. In many locations, it’s also much more reliable than trying to see if you can get a taxi.
Wherever you’re traveling….
Bring the right stuff. Make sure to pack for the climate you’re traveling to, not the one you’re leaving. While this might seem like a no brainer, it’s easy to overlook some of the essentials that you’ll need. For example, those of us traveling from cold climates to hot ones might have everything but sunscreen on our minds, while those of us making the opposite trek might have forgotten just how important a good winter coat is. And if you’re traveling home, make sure to bring your gifts too! Just wait to wrap them until you arrive, since that pretty wrapping paper can get damaged during transport.
And don’t bring the wrong stuff. The holidays are about relaxing and being with the ones you love, so while you might think you need three outfits a day and all your gadgets, more realistically you’ll probably be doing a lot of hanging out in comfy clothes with your family. As such, there’s no need to waste precious room in your suitcase on things you aren’t going to wear or need (and yes, it’s okay to leave the video games behind for a week!).
